Tortyr: Ingen kommer undan

25/06/09  ||  Trauma

Disclaimer: I have no clue as for how to read Swedish. I’m even worse off when trying to decipher it when screamed. I can figure out words here and there, but then understanding foreign lyrics doesn’t seem to matter all that much, anyhow, now does it?

Anyways, the band we have here is a hardcore punk group from Finspång, featuring Andreas “Drette” Axelsson on guitar. I can name zero punk bands that are good, but I curiously find myself actually liking some of the music itself on here. The vocals can fuck off, but a few tracks here are some nice, mindless aggression. The cover is of what might have been a gorgeous woman now resembling Skeletor holding the severed head of some random unlucky bastard. In that respect, I can assume based on the band name, cover, and track listing this must be dealing with death, falling, blood, no escape, anger, and pissjobs. Correct me if I’m wrong, please, as I’m working with 23 years of English and 2 years of German – 0 minutes Swedish. It could be about rainbow skies and gumdrop smiles for all I know.

I don’t particularly have much to say about the music, positive or not. I’m not gonna pull down my pants and pleasure myself to it, that’s for sure. I do like a bunch of the riffs scattered throughout the album, however generic and simplistic they may be. But I’ve never heard about punk being technical and complicated: Power chords, screaming, repetitive drumming, and personality that I couldn’t pick out of a gray-colored crowd if it put on a fluorescent hat and started performing fellatio on me.

“I’m pissed, let me show you how much by making as much noise as possible!” I guess the fact that I can like a track or four on this album shows the power of at least one of the musicians on here (take a guess as to what part of the music I like). Getting to this point in reviewing I am on the second go-around with the album (this thing doesn’t go over 30 minutes, if that). The first track is still just as good as the first time I heard it. Still fuck off, vocals. Second track is alright, as well, in fact I think it’s far superior to the first. After that, though, I get kinda lost in the samey ways the rest of the music goes. There’s a couple more tracks I think are alright, but I couldn’t name which ones because I’m too lazy to see what’s playing.

So what does all this mean? If you’re into the punk/hardcore scene I don’t see why you wouldn’t like this album, even if you can’t understand the lyrics. This is not the kind of punk I grew up hating, that’s for sure. It’s not completely shit and I dig some of it. That means this gets a:

5 sexy Skeletor’s out of 10.

Recommended tracks: “De blindas lakej”, “Bland de levanda döda”, “Döden ler”, “Jag faller”. (looks like I can name those couple tracks now)
